This Spring, the 100 Strong army returns with a vengeance, and with a much anticipated collaboration. The partnership of Dubuisson and Malik is mouth watering to say the least. The former provides crafty cuts and scratches, all part of his trademark rural hip hop style, and the latter, the kind of rasping soul vocals that have made him an essential part of Germany's uber cool and exclusive Compost family. The balance of urban street sounds and Malik's retro-influenced vocals make 'All Ain't The Same' a tune that'll appeal both to lovers of today's black music scene and those of its 60's/70's funk and jazz roots alike. The dramatic chords that herald the tune's opening are reminiscent of The Godfather himself opening his set, Live At The Apollo (!!) and are counter balanced perfectly by heavy, shuffling, bass shaking beats .It's a game of two halves, a song of two parts, where the verses have an almost military tempo and the choruses a more live funk sound complete with kitsch off-key organ! The evocatively entitled 'Lap Dance' remix from Malik's right hand man, guitarist and producer, David Donnelly, takes a more laid back groove and adds lush strings, summery guitars and some re-sung vocals from Joseph that take the tune into a completely different area. One for after hours clubbing or the back room of your local sauna, no doubt. With the Vanishing System and Def Harmonic already blowing up and being playlisted by taste makers like Gilles Peterson and Mr Scruff, 100 Strong are surely set to follow.. Altered Vibes/BPM dropping bombs once again....watch out!! Hundred Strong ft. Joseph Malik : All Ain't the Same'
